Papua’s Voice Echoes on the National Stage

Jakarta, December 2, 2025 — In a formal forum attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Tourism, the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin RI), and various national stakeholders, young Papuan leader Maximus Tipagau delivered a powerful message about the future of Papua’s tourism sector. Speaking directly before the Ministry of Tourism, Maximus emphasized the strategic importance of developing Carstensz Peak Tourism as one of Indonesia’s most valuable national assets.

Addressing national leaders, Maximus underlined that Carstensz is more than a world-class adventure destination, it is an icon of Papua, carrying immense potential to drive economic opportunities, create jobs, and empower Indigenous communities in the highland regions.

Mr. Maximus spoke at the forum about Cartensz being one of Indonesia’s most valuable national assets.

He highlighted that the development of Carstensz tourism must be carried out sustainably, ensuring community involvement, environmental preservation, and strong support from the central government. Maximus also urged policymakers and industry players to view Carstensz as a major component of Indonesia’s national tourism landscape, rather than a niche destination reserved only for international climbers.
