Amy Grace Meredith: A 17-Year-Old Trailblazer on Carstensz Pyramid

In 2017, Amy Grace Meredith from the United States took on an extraordinary challenge far from home. At just 17 years old, she successfully reached the summit of Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya), the highest peak in Oceania and Southeast Asia, and one of the most technically demanding mountains in the world.

Carstensz is not only a test of climbing skill but also a journey through the heart of Papua’s untamed wilderness. Amy’s expedition, guided by Adventure Carstensz, led her and her team through dense tropical rainforest, slippery terrain, and towering limestone walls under rapidly shifting alpine weather. Despite facing sickness mid-journey, she pushed forward with determination and courage, supported by a strong and caring team of local porters.

Her youthful spirit and resilience made her one of the youngest female climbers to ever stand on the summit’s iconic metal cross, a moment she described as unforgettable. When she finally reached the iconic metal cross marking the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, she stood not only at the top of Oceania’s highest technical mountain, but at the height of her courage and perseverance.

It was a moment she will carry for the rest of her life, proof that age does not define one’s ability to conquer great heights.

Here is Amy’s heartful testimonial after her successful expedition:

“You (Adventure Carstensz) have done a very good service to us! I was impressed with how you managed to get all those permits granted so easily. No bribing means that you all relate well with Papuan good governments. I also highly appreciate all your porter’s company. They were so amusing and amazing in taking care of me and my friends. Surely, I will not forget their kindness and patience during my sickness! I believe you all will become the best travel agency in Papua.”
