For our helicopter supported expedition, the trip to the mountain is quick and efficient. From Timika, the helicopter ride to Yellow Valley Basecamp takes about 40 minutes. This fast way to get there helps climbers save energy, skip long hikes through tough areas, and start preparing for the climb right away once they arrive at basecamp.If you want a complete adventure with a cultural experience, trekking through the Singa or Sugapa route takes roughly two weeks. This journey involves hiking through highland forests, visiting traditional villages, and exploring remote valleys before arriving at Yellow Valley. Whether you choose to fly in by helicopter or trek on foot, each option gives you a special and unforgettable experience that matches your choice of adventure.

ITINERARY DETAIL – CARSTENSZ EXPEDITION 2025
Route : Helicopter Route (Timika – Basecamp – Summit – Timika)

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN TIMIKA

Location: Timika City
Objective: Participant registration, orientation, and initial acclimatization.

Time – Activity – Description
07.00–09.00 : Arrival at Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika – Adventure Carstensz team welcomes participants at the arrival terminal.
09.00–10.00 : Transfer to hotel & check-in – Partner hotels: Swiss-Belinn / Horison Timika / Rimba Papua Hotel.
11.00–15.00 : Document verification & lunch – Passport & visa check, Lorentz NP permit, security clearance, and Brimob authorization.
19.00–21.00 : Dinner & Introduction Session – Welcome remarks from the Chief Guide and introduction of the expedition crew.
21.30 – Rest.

DAY 2 – PERMITS & EQUIPMENT PREPARATION

Location: Timika City
Objective: Final administrative clearance, permits, and logistics preparation.

08.00–12.00 : Permit processing – Mimika Immigration Office.
12.00–13.00 : Lunch – Local restaurant.

20.00 – Rest / early sleep recommended.

DAY 3 – HELICOPTER FLIGHT TO BASECAMP

Location: Timika – Carstensz Basecamp (4,200 m)

05.00–06.00 : Wake up & light breakfast – Morning weather is most stable for flying.
06.00–07.00 : Transfer to helipad – Weather and logistics inspection.
07.00–09.00 : Helicopter flight Timika → Basecamp (±35–40 min) – Scenic flight over Sudirman Mountains.
09.00–10.00 : Camp setup & light acclimatization – Safety briefing at altitude.
10.00–12.00 : Acclimatization & medical check – Oxygen saturation evaluation.
12.00–13.00 : Lunch at Basecamp – High-calorie meals provided.
17.00–18.00 : Dinner.
19.00 – Rest.

DAY 4 – ACCLIMATIZATION & TECHNICAL TRAINING

Location: Carstensz Basecamp (4,200–4,400 m)

06.30–07.30 : Breakfast & stretching – Physical condition check.
08.00–12.00 : Technical climbing simulation – Belay, rappel, prusik, ascending, Tyrolean traverse.
12.00–13.00 : Lunch – Prepared by expedition cook.
13.00–16.00 : Acclimatization hike to 4,400 m – Light trek (±3 hrs) to Yellow Valley.
16.30–17.30 : Debriefing & medical check – Oxygen saturation and blood pressure check.
18.00–19.30 : Dinner & Summit Briefing – Route review, weather forecast, team assignments.
20.00 – Rest (minimum 8 hours before summit push).

DAY 5 – SUMMIT DAY (CARSTENSZ PYRAMID 4,884 m)

Location: Basecamp – Summit – Basecamp

03.00–04.00 : Summit preparation – Gear check: headlamp, harness, mountain layers.
04.00 – Start summit push – Initial rocky & steep terrain.
04.00–16.00 : Summit climb & descent – Vertical ascent approximately 600 m.
16.00 – Return to Basecamp – Recovery, late lunch.
16.00–18.00 : Rest & recovery – Light snack.
19.00 – Dinner & Summit Celebration.
21.00 – Sleep.

DAY 6 – FULL REST (RESERVE DAY)

Assigned as a buffer day for weather delays, medical recovery, or logistical adjustments.

Carstensz Pyramid Expedition by trekking has 2 routes, namely Singa and Sugapa. The advantage of trekking through these routes is the clients are able to get in touch with the villagers and their culture. At the same time, they can enjoy the beauty of nature. It is absolutely a great opportunity.
